Damn Cool Velvet; My Edited List of the Most Luxurious Fabric

Damn Cool Velvet; My Edited List of the Most Luxurious Fabric

Velvet is my personal fabric of choice, and it’s currently everywhere. Donning cushions, curtains, upholstery, stationary, handbags and even jewellery, the fabric that was once the preference of grandmas UK wide, has now become a designers go-to texture.

Whether edged in tassels, fringe or piping, and in plains or heavily patterned, both ‘grandmillennials’ and ‘classic design lovers’ alike are lusting after the next stand-out velvet item.

I’m aware that I need to be careful not to choose every single material in my home in this tempting, luxurious fabric, but given the options available to us by our favourite designers, on the high street and even in the supermarkets, its increasingly hard not to purchase all our fabric requirements in velvet.

I’ve put together some of the most distinctive velvet pieces currently in stores and online, but I could have easily created 20 boards - so this here moodboard is a very edited selection of my absolute Damn Cool list!

Damn Cool Velvet - Autumnal Palette

As 2020 arrives at Autumn, I’m very much drawn to the fall palette of warming, soothing, rich colours, but in those hues that still pack a punch. The recent Dulux ‘Expressive Palette’, curated to work with their 2021 Colour Of The Year: Brave Ground (see my post all about Brave Ground here) resonated with me when searching for the coolest velvet items available.

The gorgeous pink background ‘wave’ on the moodboard is called Twice Shy by Valspar. Such a gorgeous, rich cocooning colour for any room, but I’m imagining a bedroom or living room with some kind of fireplace glow, and low level lighting to really compliment the colour.

I’d need to save up for quite some time to afford myself the luxury of the velvet House of Hackney lampshade with extra long burgundy fringing, but with only few knock out pieces like this, you can build the interior around the colours within its pattern and it will be sure to earn its keep, yielding joy and appreciation each day for years to come.

The Loaf Bagsie sofa is one of the best looking sofas out there in my opinion, a elegant and modern take on the Chesterfield. More importantly than its aesthetic, its deep (velvet!) seats are extremely sink-in and comfortable. This “Old Rose” shade will work wonderfully with plums, golds, oranges and other pinks.

Both of the fabric swatches are from Woodchip and Magnolia, my current wallpaper and fabric brand crush. I have a few samples on order which I can’t wait to see in real life and scheme up for a few of my clients that I know will adore them.

If you would like to add some velvet pieces to your space but not sure which ones are right for you and your home, get in touch to see how I can help you on the journey to achieving the interior you deserve.
