This year has certainly been like no other, and a compromised Christmas is something we’ll all have to contend with when it comes to socialising and (the lack of) house hopping this year. But this same, minimal formula need not apply to your dining table, nor the joy in celebrating the festive season.
The Covid-19 pandemic enforced new rules upon us, mainly to spend at lot more time at home to keep ourselves, each other and the NHS as safe as possible. For many of us, being at home has heightened our appreciation for our surroundings and put a whole new importance on the space we occupy.
We love our home, and over the years we’ve really made it our own but it hasn’t come without its obstacles. We have very strict landlord rules of no painting, no hanging pictures, no nails, brackets… nothing in the walls. We had to practically petition to get curtain poles put up.
The interior of this Victorian terrace in Sale was originally decorated with a bold and vibrant colour palette. The new homeowner wanted her mixture of beautiful antique pieces to work within the current scheme within a minimal amount of re-decoration. This case study is proof that bold colour can work just as well with the new owners traditional styling as much as the modern ways of the previous owner.
Old, new, repurposed, cheap, expensive, passed down… I'm drawn to all types of furniture and I collect pieces based on values like practicality, nostalgia, value for money, soul and of course… love. As we’re rightly experiencing an increased awareness for sustainability and taking responsibility for shopping more sensibly, we’re starting to think about how we can be more considered with our buying patterns, and how we procure furniture and accessories for our home.
