Damn Cool Baubles 2020; Christmas is NOT Cancelled!

Damn Cool Baubles 2020; Christmas is NOT Cancelled!

If you know me, you know I’m all about #kitschmas, the anything goes, pile it all on kind of vibe. As much as I admire ‘the cohesive tree’, flowing through the home with the red thread of ‘good taste’ - I’m afraid that’s just not me!

Growing up in the 80s and 90s, I was subjected each year to multicoloured lights, glass baubles in all shapes and sizes, paper chains, foil hanging starbursts, metallic garlands and tin retro tackiness. Oh, and of course, TINSEL! I loved it then and still do!

This year, Christmas might look a little different and yes, we’ll need to toast it on a much smaller scale, but it’s by no means cancelled. We need a joyful and positive spirit now more than ever, so why shouldn’t we stop to celebrate getting this far and reflecting on lessons learned? It’s been a tough one after all and we fully deserve a festive interlude in the homes that we have a new found respect and appreciation for.

Santa 2020 - W.A Green - could there be a more on trend Christmas bauble?!

Santa 2020 - W.A Green - could there be a more on trend Christmas bauble?!

The very feeling of Christmas is nostalgia to your gooey core, and I think it’s the opportunity of the year to decorate in a way that feeds the child inside you, the one that squeals and smiles when the Argos and Coke adverts appear on the tele, whilst wrapped up in fleecy novelty pjs and slippers. Are you with me?! If you are, then I think this edit is for you, in all its crazy glory.

This Christmas more than ever, feel free to do what you want, throw caution to the, ‘staying in’! Personally, I decorate my house for me and the people in it, not for anybody else. And if anything, Christmas 2020 is giving those tinsel shy voters the perfect opportunity to get it all out and dazzle your home, because this year, no-one will see it!

Let’s keep focusing on the little things, the small pleasures and the happy indulgences. ’Tis the season of joy and cheer after all, and one of the things that gives me so much joy this time of year is BAUBLES! And I have it on good authority that a few of you feel the same. My Christmas decoration storage boxes are a journal of my life. The treasured contents have been collected, passed down, pre-loved and handmade, and each year I enjoy the hunt for a few more morsels of delight to add to the collection.

Wedgewood Gift Box

Being from Stoke-On-Trent, it wouldn’t be right of me not to include a couple Wedgewood’s finest crafted porcelain baubles. The exquisite classic Wedgewood blue decorations are packaged in a lovely presentation box, making the perfect gift for ‘those who have everything’ and who really appreciate traditional artisan craft. They will add the festive magic to any home.

My go-to places to buy Christmas decorations tend to be local Christmas markets (so due to the closures this year I’ll be seeking them out online) TKMaxx, garden centres (I love how garden centres get all grotto so early on!) and Paperchase. Having worked at Paperchase for most of my student and early 20s life, I have a LOT of novelty Christmas decorations from there, and they have lasted so well. Later in life I discovered Rockett St George, W.A Green (also check out their range of neon tinsel!) Amara and of course, Liberty.

Because this year we may not be able to get out to the shops as much as we’d like, here is my edit of the what I think are some of the coolest baubles, all shoppable online via the links provided in the shopping list below. We have a mixture of traditional, oriental, pop, kitsch, vintage inspired and a few luxury ornaments, for those of us who fancy a real splurge (and why not, have you seen this Versace bell?!)

I mean…

I mean…

Despite lockdown 2.0 and the daily News that’s full of craziness, we WILL have a great Christmas this year, albeit, a different one. So let’s decorate like there’s no-one watching :)
